Spain's work calendar for 2024 comprises a total of 12 holidays, with nine being national holidays observed across Spain. Additionally, two regional holidays are included in this total of 12 days.

What are the national celebration days in Spain? Specifically, in 2024 there will be public holidays throughout Spain on Monday 1st January (New Year's Day), Saturday 6th January (Epiphany of the Lord), Friday 29th March (Good Friday), Wednesday 1st May (Labour Day), Thursday 15th August (Assumption of the Virgin), Saturday 12th October (Spanish National Day), Friday 1st November (All Saints Day), Friday 6th December (Day of the Spanish Constitution) and Wednesday 25th December (Christmas Day).

 

There are other common public holidays that the autonomous communities can move to another day. This has been the case with Thursday 28th March (Maundy Thursday), which will be a public holiday throughout Spain except in Valencia and Catalonia, but not with Saturday 6th January, Epiphany, which all the autonomous communities have decided to maintain.

 

Among the powers granted to the autonomous communities is also the possibility of substituting the rest on the Monday following national holidays that coincide on a Sunday with the incorporation of others that are traditional for them, as well as the option of celebrating Saint Joseph's Day (19th March) or Saint James' Day (25th July) in their corresponding territory.

 

Thus, 9th December (the Monday following the Immaculate Conception) will be a public holiday in Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Castile and Leon, Extremadura, Murcia and Melilla; Thursday 25th July (St James the Apostle) will only be a public holiday in Cantabria, Galicia, Madrid, Navarre and the Basque Country, and Tuesday 19th March (St Joseph's Day) will only be a public holiday in Murcia and the Valencian Community.
